The Gingerbread Witch

The Witch of the Candy House

Let's see if you've fattened up. Poke out one finger for me.

By Katsuki Mitsumori

Profile

A witch who lured children to her candy house, fattened them up, and meant to eat them. But she could never resist her own confections, grew fatter than any of her victims, and turned herself, walls and all, into a sweet cursed thing. Her body is made of gingerbread and caramel, so every time someone takes a bite she chips a little and sulks a little. Lately she prefers grown-ups who hoard their someday-I'll-get-to-it lists over children, and she takes tea with the backlog-mountain crone Tsundoki as a fellow hoarder. The tea snacks are her own fingers.

Relationships with other curses

She and Tsundoki hold a weekly contest bragging about how much they've hoarded. She glares at Akazukin over their shared prey, but one shared sweet and they make up in an instant.

How to deal with this curse

The Gingerbread Witch embodies the everyday frustration of "fairy tales." Bottled-up feelings only grow heavier. The moment you feel it, give it a name and write it out — that is the quickest way to make it lighter. Noroi Nikki is a completely private place to do exactly that.
